Primeval Mother breathed the world, and we
were formed from the beginning, unified,
one consciousness, both male and female, tied
by caretaker’s responsibility
‘til Adam, greedy, shunned equality.
He wanted less than partner. How he tried
to subjugate me, husband over wife
until I grew new wings so I could flee
for safety far from Eden. When I’d gone
he set above the world an angry man,
replaced our Mother’s love with strident spite,
declared me evil, called me Satan’s spawn.
I know his guilt, and fear; I understand
that’s why he says I visit him at night.
